The writing is so beautiful and the story gives me hope for families that are broken and heal with cracks, sometimes again and again. Duncan's story follows a family who has more than their share of hardship but also more than their share of humor and love and ways of seeing the world. I recommend it to everyone and beg them not to be intimidated by it's heft. I sent a copy to my father and five years later he finally got around to reading it.
