Dog of the Week
Hello again, Canis lupus familiaris fans. After a brief hiatus, Dog of the Week returns with Abbey. She's a rescue. And a doll.
Such a doll, in fact, that she barely registered how rude it was for a photographer to make like he was going to scratch her chin and instead snap a photo in her face. Sorry, Abbey. Good girl.
Is Abbey named for environmental activist/novelist Edward Abbey? I forgot to ask her. But, really, when was the last time you read The Monkeywrench Gang?
Maybe today would be a good day to pick it up again.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteYes, Abbey was named for Edward Abbey and The Monkeywrench Gang. Two years ago this scruffy, big-hearted doggie was found just off the Yakima Reservation, and then adopted through a wonderful rescue group in Snoqualmie, Twin Rivers Rescue. The naming of a dog is a difficult thing.....she didn't look like a Hayduke, Bonnie, Doc Sarvis or Seldom Seen, but fortunately, she looked just like an ABBEY.
A couple of Edward Abbey "dog" quotes seem in order....
"When a man's best friend is his dog, that dog has a problem." (Source?)
"May your trails be dim, lonesome, stony, narrow, winding and only slightly uphill. May the wind bring rain for the slickrock potholes fourteen miles on the other side of yonder blue ridge. May God's dog serenade your campfire, may the rattlesnake and the screech owl amuse your reveries, may the Great Sun dazzle your eyes by day and the Great Bear watch over you at night.
- from Beyond the Wall
And, yes, Abbey is a very good dog....especially when she visits the University Bookstore with her very good friends Bob, Harris and Moose. (Thanks for all the cookies!)
Laurette
Thanks for the update, Laurette! Please give Abbey a scratch behind the ears from me.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Abbey!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a sweetheart and deserve all the pats, scratches and cookies you can get!
Don't forget to take Laurette for regular walks. You & I know that she really needs more exercise! ;]
